Butte College honored 130 students at its annual Scholarship Awards Reception Thursday, August 19 at Chico Elks Lodge. Tri Counties Bank sponsored the event.
Donors, trustees, board members, staff and students attended the reception, which was held off-campus for the first time. Face masks were required and provided at the event. Presenters awarded 257 scholarships totaling $194,525 at the event. The Foundation also awards more than $14,000 in scholarships to students in our Law Enforcement, Firefighter, and State Parks and Recreation Academy students at their graduation ceremonies each year.
“This event was a great success,” said Butte College Development Officer Desiree Gonzalez. “It’s incredible to see students further their education with donor support. We’d especially like to thank our sponsor Tri Counties Bank, which has been a community partner and supporter of Butte College students for many years.”
Student Leng Yang was awarded multiple scholarships, and he emphasized how much they will ease the hardships he would have faced without them. “After I finish college, I’m planning on becoming a registered nurse and help the community,” Yang said. “I want to give support back to the community the way they have supported me.”
