General Motors donated $10,000 to the Butte College Automotive Department to provide tool sets and storage carts for students in the automotive technology program.
Students were eligible for the tool set and cart if they were in the last two semesters of the automotive program, maintained a B average or above, had financial need and are actively looking for employment in the automotive industry. Eligibility is determined by an essay reviewed by department staff, and students pursuing an associate’s degree.
Graduates Damon Hughes and Cruz Padilla were awarded the tool boxes at the Automotive Technology Department’s drive-thru ceremony, May 27.
“As students reach the end of the automotive program and prepare to find work in the industry, some students lack the ability to afford a tool set and tool box,” said Rob Holt, Butte College Automotive Technology Department Chair. “This grant provides students with the opportunity to start their career with some of the financial burden lifted.”
Jerry and Diane Pajouh, owners of Courtesy Automotive in Chico, were instrumental in connecting Butte College with General Motors for the grant.
