Butte College track and field student-athlete Melissa Navarro officially committed to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo at a signing ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Butte College Kinesiology and Athletic Performance Center at the main campus.
Navarro, a child development major, has been a member of the women’s track and field team at Butte College since the Fall of 2018. The Chico native had never competed in track and field prior to attending Butte and joined the team at the suggestion of her brother. Navarro currently holds the Butte College record for javelin, with a throw of 150 feet, 8 inches.
Navarro will transfer to continue her collegiate career in Spring 2022.
