Butte College Student-Athletes Earn Academic Distinction

Butte College continues to solidify its reputation as a hub of excellence for student-athletes, with several individuals and teams recently earning academic distinctions from the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A).

Dante JacksonDante Jackson, a standout football player for the Butte College Roadrunners, is one of two athletes to receive the highest honor awarded by the 3C2A: 2022-23 3C2A Scholar-Athlete. With over 24,000 annual participants, this accolade stands as a testament to Jackson's exceptional commitment both on the field and in the classroom. Jennifer A. Cardone, the executive director of 3C2A, praised Jackson's remarkable achievement in an email statement. "You should be especially proud of this accomplishment since the credentials of the nominees were extremely impressive and made the selections very difficult," she wrote.

Joining Jackson in the ranks of academic distinction is Meghan Weinrich, a member of the Butte College women's basketball team. Weinrich's academic and athletic dedication earned her a spot on the 2022-23 3C2A Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

Butte College's Men's and Women's Basketball and Football teams collectively received recognition as California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Team recipients for the 2022-23 academic year. The acknowledgment reflects these teams' unwavering commitment to excellence on and off the field.

Jackson's work on the field and in the classroom was celebrated in 2022-23. He showcased his prowess as a punter and kicker, earning accolades such as the Chico Sports Hall of Fame Butte College Sophomore of the Year and multiple All-California and Northern California Football Conference First Team honors. Beyond his athletic achievements, Jackson's academic endeavors are equally impressive, with recognition as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America honoree and a perfect 4.0 GPA. His success on the field and in the classroom led to him signing with NCAA Division I University of Akron to continue his athletic and academic career.

Meghan WeinrichMeanwhile, Meghan Weinrich's impact on the Women's Basketball team has been profound. Named the 2023 NorCal Player of the Year, Weinrich's stellar performance on the court and academic excellence propelled her to numerous accolades, including GVC Player of the Year and multiple All-State honors. Weinrich's remarkable statistical achievements further solidify her status as a standout athlete, with impressive averages in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks.

Jackson, Weinrich, and the three scholar teams will be honored at the annual 3C2A convention on Wednesday, March 27, during the Scholar-Athlete Luncheon.
