Business Information Worker

Butte College's BIW structured career pathway is aligned with a California statewide program that collaborated with businesses and advisory committees across the state to identify the most in-demand and desirable knowledge and skills required of today's business information workers.  

The BIW Programs offers its students the professional and technological skills required in today’s workplaces including: 

-Professional Skills: Practical workplace skills needed for today’s business professionals including business communication, workplace professional skills, business math, and records management. --

-Software Skills: Introductory and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 programs including both the desktop and online versions. 

-Technology Skills: Technology skills used by the modern worker to collaborate with colleagues and clients including cloud computing and web-based tools for business. 


Legal Office Administration

Butte College’s Legal Office Administration (LOA) structured career pathway is for students who are interested in entering the challenging and highly specialized field of legal office support.  

The LOA Programs offer its students the professional and legal office skills required to meet the demands of employers and the needs of an increasingly global and technologically advancing legal industry. 

-Legal Office Support Skills: Beginning and advanced legal office practices, legal research, & fundamental legal principles in business. 

-Professional Office Skills: Practical workplace skills needed for today’s legal office support professionals including business communication, workplace professional skills, business math, and records management. 

-Technology Skills: Introductory knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 programs including both the desktop and online versions, as well as advanced Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro. 


Medical Office Administration

Butte College’s Medical Office Administration (MOA) structured career pathway is for students who are interested in providing office support in the exciting and demanding healthcare industries. The MOA career pathway is a blend of three major areas: the advancing field of health information management (HIM), the ever-emerging field of business technology, and the constantly in-demand communication and professional skills. 

The MOA Programs offer its students the professional and medical office skills required in today’s healthcare industries including: 

-Healthcare Industry. Healthcare industry knowledge including healthcare information management and legal and ethical issues.  

-Medical Office & Coding Skills.  Practical workplace skills needed in today’s healthcare delivery systems including medical terminology, human systems, outpatient/physician diagnostic coding, reimbursement, and electronic health records. 

-Professional & Business Skills.  Practical workplace skills needed for today’s business professionals including business communication, workplace professional skills, and introductory business technology skills.
